Memorial Day

John and I spent a wonderful day with my parents driving to all the graves that I use to visit when I was little--well, same cemeteries, a few new graves actually. We visited George's and Lyda's graves in Morgan, then Lyda's parents' and grandparents' graves in Upton. We saw all three houses that my Dad lived in while in Morgan, including the house he was born in. We drove by the Robinson homestead in Upton--I have a painting of that one--and saw a cool wasp nest in an old, old outhouse in the Upton Cemetery! Luckily, it was a dead wasp nest that had been partially torn down--but the remains were scary enough. We followed the Mormon Pioneer trail through Emigration Canyon to put flowers on Aunt Hazel's grave in Mount Olivet Cemetery, then finished up at the SLC cemetery where there are lots of Newbold and Sperry family members.

Jana and Robert joined us for Upton and the drive through Emigration Canyon. David joined us at the SL cemetery, and then for dinner. We had a great day visiting, sight-seeing, and learning about family history. I'll try to load a few pictures sometime soon. I've wanted to visit the graves for several years now--I don't think I've done it since Kathy was about 10. She used to always joke about us visiting graves for her birthday. I love it. I love the memories associated with it, and I love the sense of family history it strengthens.
