Frosting

Melody and I taught Avery Belle the joys of 'licking the spoon'. She caught on really well, though she was suspicious at first and we had to demonstrate how yummy it was.

Still Here!

I was quite alarmed the other day when I checked into my blog to do some stuff and saw a blank page! Then I realized that, with a new month, new entries are needed. I have no pictures, and no real news, but I just wanted to see something on my page.

SOMETHING ON MY PAGE.

There.

Medical training

My sister-in-law, Rachel, is staying with us while she recovers from surgery. She was supposed to be enjoying time with her sisters before moving to NC, but then her incision decided to become quite infected. I took her to the doctors in SL, and they had to open the incision and drain all the icky yellow stuff. As a result, the wound was left open, to be packed and the dressing changed twice daily. That's my job. Rachel's sisters were not exactly excited to do the wound dressing, and they have little kids who love to climb on 'Aunt Rachel'. So, I'm fulfilling one of my passing dreams of being a nurse. I got to look inside Rachel's abdominal wall and see the stitched holding the fascia together so her guts don't poke out. I even used a flashlight! It was way cool. I'm getting pretty good at dressing the wound, and it doesn't bother me at all. I'm just glad it's improving, but feel bad and selfish because Rachel's sisters don't get the time to visit that they wanted. I think they're finally realizing that my house is open to visitors, because they are coming on Monday. And all the while, Derrik, Rachel's husband, is in NC starting a new job at Wake Forest University and worrying about his wife.
Rachel is planning on posting a picture of the wound on her blog, but I thought maybe my readers would freak out at the sight of an open wound, so you just get the description. Rachel says I'm helping her remain calm by viewing the hole so matter-of-factly. I hope so. In trade, she is commiserating with me over my recent oral surgery and bone graft, and me having to have two stitches replaced after they popped. John is very sick with a sore throat, so amongst the three of us sickies, we have quite the household! Maybe I should post a picture of the stitches in my mouth!

New Paint Job

My 'Treasured Jade' wall in the front room! I keep going in there to stare at it--I love it.
