Music Teacher

After 20 years of volunteering to teach music, choir, recorders, etc at the local grade school, I will now be getting paid! I interviewed today for the K-4 Music Teacher position at Timpanogos Academy in Lindon, and came home with the curriculum book and an agreement to sub for two weeks to see if the situation works out all around. If they still like me, and I still like them, I will be official faculty. Cool, huh! I am so excited. Teaching music on a grade school level is what I love. I had a position like this offered to me once before, in Bountiful, but all my kids were still little and I said no. I always wondered if I'd get another chance someday. This opportunity came through a friend who was impressed with me when I directed her boy in a couple of my choirs. She's almost as excited as I am :)
The job will be Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:00-3:00, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 to 12:00. The ultimate cushy, wonderful job. Tailor-made for me. Not too many hours, a few more than I'm currently volunteering, but not overwhelmingly so. I will have to give up the volunteer stuff, though. That will be sad. I've loved my years of volunteering at Valley View, but I am super excited to see what I can do in a setting where each grade level comes twice a week, and I can develop an overall strategy for curriculum instead of trying to expose the kids to as much culture as fast as I can in 1/2 hour a week for 4 months.

Happy Anniversary

Happy Anniversary to us! We celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary yesterday with dinner at The Chef's Table in Provo--which is the ultimate in good food and pampering, starting with the Italian ice to 'cleanse the palate'! Tenderloin filet with shrimp saute, handsome husband across the table...life is good, definitely.

MRSA:methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus

This first week of school has been interesting for Melo. Last week she got a bad staff infection in her left heel--started from a simple blister. She's been on heavy duty antibiotics for 8 days now, dual antibiotics since Wednesday, and we've been to the doctor every three days, starting last Thursday. Her foot was horribly swollen and very dark red, but never hot. That's the only thing that has kept us encouraged...there was never a fever of any kind. Her foot didn't start really improving noticeably until she was put on the second antibiotic two days ago. (MRSA is only treatable with 3 antibiotics, two of which are oral and the other is administered via IV.) She kept her foot wrapped to keep the swelling down, and to protect it. Melo doesn't like crutches, so she's been hobbling around the school. Nothing like starting the year with a doctor's note to keep you out of PE! She's had to get subs for work as well--the doctor told her she couldn't be on her foot for prolonged periods of time until he checks her again on Monday. I think she has learned that enforced sitting and watching movies/TV is not nearly as enjoyable as watching movies/TV for fun. We're just grateful she didn't end up in the hospital.

Babysitting Seda

I got to babysit Seda last week while K and B went to look at their new house. I had her for 3 hours. Towards the end, she was anxious to go outside--probably tired of me and thinking she'd be closer to her parents somehow. I couldn't resist the photo opportunity, and now I'm showing off the results.

Trek to Martin's Cove

Our ward's youth conference was this past weekend, and we have now had our own Trek experience at Martin's Cove and crossing the Sweetwater. I loved being out there on the WY plains with so much sky, and knowing the pioneers had walked these same plains. We were there Thurs, Fri, and Sat, and the weather was great--two sunny days, and one overcast with a touch of rain. The food was good, the company was very good, the clothes were hot, and we were all sweaty and dirty...but we loved it. Along with pushing the handcarts, and Cove experience, we played in the river, sang songs, played pioneer games, took lots of pictures, and got to know many of our ward members alot better. John and I were Ma and Pa of the 'Green' family. Melody was in the 'Blue' family. The slide show might be a little long, but it only contains a fraction of all the pics I took, so be patient and enjoy!

Hooray for Sundays!

Hooray for Sunday! J is finally home from Alaska--he was gone ALL week long--, and we had family for dinner then went up north for Newbold FHE. Though J and I are both dead tired from lack of sleep all week, it was sure good to see him and be around family. At FHE, Gma talked about the pioneers and showed her diagram of the trail from Nauvoo to SLC. Then some of the family who'd been Trek activities and to Martin's Cove told their experiences. We get our chance this week. Thurs, Fri, and Sat will be spent in WY at Martin's Cove, having a pioneer experience. I'm just finishing the sewing on all our pioneer clothing.
