Don't Touch!

I've been growing my own broccoli starts in little peat pots so that I can transplant them into our garden in a few weeks. The starts are sitting in the sun of the living room window, semi-protected behind two chairs. 'Semi-' being the key word. Last Sunday, while Kathy and Brice and their girls were here, I heard Billy say, "Oh no, Abigail, we don't play with the broccoli." I cringed and hustled to the living room to inspect the damage. Fortunately, Billy had scared Abigail away before she'd actually gotten to the broccoli. As I was leaning in to check on the plants and straighten one of the little starts, I heard a very serious--very serious--voice say, "Oh, we don't touch those." I quickly turned, and there was Seda staring as me intently. The look she was giving me tied my tongue. All my explanations about how the broccoli was mine and so I was allowed to touch it suddenly became completely inadequate. I humbly acknowledged that she was right, and we left the broccoli alone.
I'll straighten my little starts another day.

Avon Sale

Remember when I announced that I was finally quitting Avon, and that I'd given all my business to my good friend and associate, Geri Taylor? Well, Geri is working very hard to achieve the next level of sales in Avon--an elite group of sales representatives known as 'The McConnell Club'. I've watched her efforts and I've decided to throw some online support her way via my blog. She is a great lady as well as a great Avon representative.

Geri is having an Avon e-party. Just go to youravon.com/geritaylor and click on the e-parties tab. Do it soon. I just found out about her goal, and she only has 3 more days to complete it! All the Avon brochures are available at her website, even the Outlet discount brochures, and there is free shipping directly to your home. It's a great way to get the Avon product you want and need, and help Geri out at the same time.

P.S. You can keep using Geri as your Avon rep for as long as you want. I don't know if you'll always get free shipping, but you'll never have to wish for an Avon rep again, and you'll always have access to the product you want.

Virtual Quilting

My sister-in-law, Rachel, and I are starting a new blog. We've decided to do an e-block-of-the-month. She and I are going to switch off choosing the blocks, and then we'll both make all the blocks in fabrics of our own choosing and display the results on our blog. I got to choose first, so if you want to see our premiere block, go to eblockofthemonth.blogspot.com. You could even join in the fun!

The trick will be for Rachel and me to stay ahead of the project. For instance, all the instructions for the first block are on the blog, but none of the illustrations. We wanted to use photos of our own blocks in process for the illustrations, but neither of us have finished the first block yet. (Or even started it, for that matter--this is a very new venture...very new.)

I've missed Rachel alot since she moved to NC last year. We used to go to block-of-the-month classes together when she lived here, and we would also get together to quilt and sew. Now that we're so living so far apart, we're having an online quiltfest instead.

P.S. The quilt in the picture is one that Kathy made. I just did the machine quilting.

Train Up A Child

You know that scripture that talks about training up a child in the way they should go? Well...at the risk of seeming terribly irreverent, here is one of my interpretations of that:

I used to love to visit my Grandma Newbold and look through all her costume jewelry. I was fortunate to receive this necklace and earring set from her collection and I wanted my grand-daughters to gain appreciation for their heritage :)

The Homecoming

I don't have all the pictures, and probably not the best ones, but I do have some--and I can show off my newly returned missionary son!
